Landlord Vetting & Listing Review Process

Off-Campus Housing 101 maintains a structured landlord vetting and listing review process designed to support institutional housing policies, reduce fraudulent activity, and promote transparency for students seeking off-campus housing.

This process applies to listings submitted to the platform and is intended to provide an additional layer of review prior to publication. Listings that do not meet platform standards or raise verification concerns may be declined.

Landlord Verification & Listing Review

All landlords are required to create an account and authenticate their email address before submitting a listing. Each landlord account is associated with a specific partner institution and includes a system-generated record of the account creation date, time, and originating IP address.

Listings submitted to the platform are reviewed prior to publication. During this process, the platform applies a combination of automated checks and manual review to identify potential issues such as duplicate accounts, inconsistent property details, or indicators of fraudulent activity.

Duplicate detection and review may include comparison of contact information, property addresses, names, and technical indicators such as IP address history. Listings that require additional scrutiny may be subject to further validation before approval.

Manual Review & Approval

All listings must be approved by authorized staff before becoming visible to students. Listings that appear inconsistent, incomplete, or potentially misleading may be declined or returned for clarification.

In certain cases, additional review may be performed to confirm that the individual submitting a listing has a legitimate relationship to the property being advertised, particularly where listings originate from outside the local region.

Ongoing Monitoring

The platform maintains historical records of landlord activity and listings to support ongoing monitoring, fraud prevention, and operational integrity. Landlords who have previously listed properties without incident may be visually identified as established participants on the platform.

Listings or accounts that later raise concerns may be reviewed again and, where appropriate, restricted or removed from active visibility.

Important Disclosure

Listing review and landlord vetting do not constitute an endorsement, certification, or guarantee of any property or landlord. Off-Campus Housing 101 does not inspect properties or verify lease terms.

Students are encouraged to conduct their own due diligence prior to entering into a lease agreement, including reviewing lease terms, confirming property details, and communicating directly with landlords.
